Prince Albert II of Monaco admitted in a new interview that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey “did bother” him.
The son of Prince Rainier and Princess Grace said that the couple, who relocated to California following their Megxit, should’ve expressed their concerns in private instead of on national TV.
“It’s very difficult to be in someone’s place. I can understand the pressures that they were under, but I think that this type of public display of dissatisfaction, to say the least, these types of conversations should be held within the intimate quarters of the family,” Albert, 63, told BBC World News on Thursday, March 25.
“It doesn’t really have to be laid out in the public sphere like that.”
The environmentalist acknowledged that he could “understand where they were coming from” and wished them nothing but the best with their new lives.
“It’s a difficult world out there, and I hope that he can have the judgment and wisdom to make the right choices,” he said.
Prince Harry, 36, and Markle, 39, dropped various bombshells during their discussion with Winfrey, including claiming someone within the family questioned their son Archie’s skin color. Markle also said she had suicidal thoughts and claimed she received no support from the royal establishment — also known as “the Firm” — when she asked for treatment.
The couple declined to reveal the identity of the person who had concerns about Archie but later confirmed it was neither Queen Elizabeth II nor husband Prince Philip.
“He did not tell me who were part of those conversations,” Winfrey shared the day after the interview. “As you can see, I tried to get that answer — on camera and off.”
